Find an Accredited Nursing School
If you want a career as a nurse then here are lists of accredited nursing schools that have accredited nursing programs for you to follow. There are many nursing colleges online that can help with all areas of nursing from midwifey to anesthesia and also offer accelerated programs to speed through nursing college even faster. Most also offer continuing education nurse degree courses.
Nursing Accreditation Bodies
There are two leading bodies in the US that offer nursing courses accreditation and these are the National Leagues of Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC) and The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Then there's the Higher Learning Commission (NCAHLC) based in Chicago that is one of two independent commission members of the NCA (North Central Associate of Colleges and Schools). The HLC is recognized by US Department of Education and the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
For midwifery course a seperate body accredites those programs called the The American College of Nurse-Midwives Division of Accreditation (ACNM).
NLNAC is responsible for the accreditation of specialized nursing education programs that includes Diplomas, Practical Nursing Exam, Clinical Doctorate, Master's Degrees, Associate Degrees and Baccalaureate Degrees. They are nationally recognized as an accrediting agency for post secondary and higher degree programs. They have currently accredited the following programs : nursing doctorate 1, masters degree 102, baccalaureate 259, associate degree 617, diploma 59 and practical nursing 153.
CCNE is officially recognized by the US Secretary of Education as a national accreditation agency and ensures the integrity and quality of degree programs fo baccalaureate, graduate and residential programs in nursing.
Why Choose an Accredited School
Although the answer may seem obvious having a nursing school that's accredited by one of the two bodies described above is essential as only degrees when you have graduated from college from those schools allow you to eventually sit the National Council Licensure Examination to become a Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN). Additionally you may also be able to receive credits against your course for previous experience you may have gained.
