Nursing Scholarships and Grants
There are many ways in which to get help to pay for your tuition fees, living expenses and accommodation expenses in the form of financial aid and billions of dollars are provided each year in the form of grants, scholarships and other forms of student loans.
Student Grants
Grants are available for students from the government as well as private institutions and mostly a grant received never has to be repaid to the organisation that provides it to you. One of the most common grants adwarded is a federal pell grant application that is generally for lower income students and the maxmimum award is around $5,500 which can be used for almost anything related to your studying so long as you are eligible and your college or university is in the scheme.
Scholarships
A scholarship is almost like a grant and like grants generally doesn't have to be repaid and are generally awarded in weird or wacky types of courses, or if you are a resident in the area, or to attract someone with outstanding talent or ability. Our section on nursing scholarships shows some of the awards on offer and how to apply for them. Some may be also made if for example you are a single parent or a minority. There is also the recognized nursing scholarship program that you may also want to consider.
Student Loans
The last resort that most students turn to is to take out some form of loan whether it be a federal loan at a low interest rate or a private student loan. Check the small print on whatever you are thinking of applying for to ascertain the interest rates and when you have to start to repay your loan. Most only need to be repaid once you have finished your college course and have started work and have a regular income.
